While camps Greenwood and Piper Hill haven't been in operation the past two years, Camp Rolling Ridges has been popular with campers, attracting about 1,000 girls last year. There had even been recent renovations to the 555-acre camp, which the Girl Scouts began purchasing in 1966, Hiebert said.

“The goal is to stop the sale of additional camp properties without the permission of the membership,” Lorrie Bohl Beaulieu, a leader of the opposition, said in a Facebook message to members of a Friends of River Valleys Camps group.

“Our attorney assures us that we indeed have rights despite what RV (River Valleys) might say otherwise,” Bohl Beaulieu adds.

She said the friends group had no idea the sale was pending.

“Apparently, our board does not share this information with its members. I have no idea why,” Bohl Beaulieu wrote.

Local Girl Scout camp is alive and well
August 19, 2014

Girl Scout Camp Nawakwa was filled with the songs and laughter of Girl Scouts recently as more than 20 Girl Scout volunteers hosted a Camp-o-Ree for over 75 Girl Scouts.

The Camp-o-Ree was the brainchild of the local Girl Scouts in Chippewa Falls known as Nokomis Service Area. After resident camp was consolidated three years ago, the volunteers realized the girls wanted to continue to go to Camp Nawakwa for more than a weekend. Hosting a week-long resident camp was a huge undertaking as skilled staff were needed. Some positions needed included a wilderness First Aider, skilled waterfront volunteers, and someone that could cook for over one hundred people in order to make this event happen.

Girl Scouts selling properties
Change in focus to leadership development
http://www.fox11online.com/news/local/girl-scouts-facilities-plan
The regional Girl Scouts office will sell part or all of several camping facilities as it focuses more on leadership development.

The Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes plans to update program curriculum with more cutting-edge technology and education; high-level leadership, teambuilding & confidence programs; and digital-age topics and facilities.....

......"While we understand that some friends and members may be disappointed by these conclusions, we ask all stakeholders to keep in mind that these difficult decisions will strengthen Girl Scouting by reallocating resources for a more contemporary and efficient leadership program. These actions will also allow GSNWGL to develop a greater presence in more communities and make our council more adaptable to the changing needs and interests of those we serve," the council said in a news release.
