Scouts' Magic Sky Ranch up for $12.7M sale
http://www.coloradoan.com/story/money/2015/04/08/colorado-girl-scouts-sell-magic-sky-ranch/25481509/
Girl Scouts of Colorado is selling its 733-acre Magic Sky Ranch in Red Feather Lakes for $12.7 million.

The nonprofit has owned the ranch surrounded by Roosevelt National Forest since 1968 and in 2007 added nearly 60,000 square feet of improvements and buildings. The organization announced last year its intent to sell Magic Sky because it was losing money.
Girl Scouts of Colorado to sell Magic Sky Ranch and dedicate resources to outdoor programs

To focus its efforts on delivering a high quality outdoor leadership experience for all girls, Girl Scouts of Colorado’s Board of Directors has decided to put Magic Sky Ranch up for sale. The board is optimistic about the opportunities this will create to strengthen the programming throughout the state and at our other outdoor properties. As responsible financial stewards, the board decided to sell the property which generates the highest annual financial loss (Magic Sky Ranch) and reallocate the resources to mission-focused programming that includes and goes beyond camp and the outdoors.
Heath Construction Embarks on $6.5 Million Girl Scout Camp Project

From 2006...
Heath Construction, a leading contractor for commercial and recreational buildings in the Rocky Mountain region, has been selected by Girl Scouts -- Mile Hi Council of Denver, Colo., to construct the new $6.5 million, multi-building Magic Sky Ranch. The 750-acre camp is located near Red Feather Lakes in the mountains northwest of Fort Collins, Colo.

“Girl Scouts of Colorado has decided to rest the day camp and troop camp program at Camp Genesee, 20 miles west of Denver, for the 2009 season.  A wide variety of other Girl Scout day camp and troop camp experiences will be available to girls throughout Colorado.

Girl Scouts of Colorado has also decided to offer troop camping instead of resident camping at Meadow Mountain Ranch, near Estes Park, for the 2009summer.  The primary reason for offering only troop camping at MMR this summer is that there are significant regulatory problems that need to be resolved before the property can reopen for resident camp.  During the summer, we can safely offer troop camping while we work on the property to meet the new regulatory requirements for resident camping.  In making the difficult decision about camp programs for the summer of 2009, Girls Scouts of Colorado looked at four factors: the cost to open/maintain, safety, the number of girls impacted, and the geographic location of the property.  The number of girls who can attend resident camp in a summer at MMR is lower than at any other resident camp in the state.  The three other resident camps throughout the state will be able to accommodate the girls who attended MMR.  For a similar rustic camping experience, check out the programs available at Sky High Ranch.  For a resident camp located in northern Colorado, check out Magic Sky Ranch.

All Girl Scouts of Colorado properties are being reviewed by a board-appointed property task force, and all property decisions will be made by the Girl Scouts of Colorado Board of Directors.” – from www.girlscoutsofcolorado.org/index.cfm/fuseaction/content.home/PageContentCategoryID/28 (Link is no longer active.)
